Cancer registries have the unique position of information provider with the general purpose of evaluating and controlling cancer impact in the community. They are an essential part of a coherent canc\"\"er control program through: objectives setting, establishing priorities, planning healthcare services, evaluating costs, planning and streamlining the allotted resources, monitoring the accomplishment of objectives and the efficiency of prevention programs. The data is of value only if it is complete and correct; it is necessary to establish standards according to international recommendations (ENCR \u2013 The European Network of Cancer Registries and IARC \u2013 International Agency for research on cancer, IACR \u2013 The International Association of Cancer Registries) in order to have a high quality of data. Comparability is a key issue in cancer statistics, the uniform collection and analysis being absolutely necessary in order to be able to make a comparison with the statistics of other population.<\/p>\n

In this respect ENCR\/EC Joint Research Centre together with Cluj Regional Cancer Registry from Oncology Institute \u201cProf Dr ion Chiricuta\u201d Cluj-Napoca, Romania will organize, in 25-28 May 2021, the online international course \u201cTraining on Population-based Cancer Registration\u201d.<\/p>\n

The course is intended for staff working in cancer registries and for people involved in data collection and coding. The objective of this course is to provide formal training to registry staff, to bring together people from various countries and disciplines (data collection, coding, computing, administration, analysis, etc.) in order to share experience, to provide basic knowledge methods for data collection, coding, processing and analysis of data. A section dedicated to childhood cancer registration will be included. The agenda is shaped in a way to suit newly established, re-established or to-be established population based registries. The course is intended primarily for the Eastern European registries, but as usual, all registries can apply.<\/p>\n
